Porcelain Veneers Hold More Cosmetic Power

If you read about cosmetic dentistry, you probably see dentists comparing the outcomes to your favorite Hollywood star. It’s true that cosmetic dentistry can make a dingy smile beautiful, but it can do wonders for your overall health as well. Do you know that porcelain veneers can strengthen your teeth while also making your smile pop?

At Dores Dental, we provide teeth-whitening treatments, porcelain veneers and composite fillings that will naturally blend in with your smile. Porcelain veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in dentistry, but patients often believe that veneers are placed only for cosmetic reasons. First of all, there is nothing vain about wanting to improve your smile. Studies have shown that cosmetic dentistry can boost patient’s confidence and allow them to thrive in professional and social situations.

The Power of Porcelain Veneers

Our veneers are made from porcelain that matches your smile and strengthens your teeth. We use porcelain veneers for patients who have heavily stained front teeth; gaps in their teeth; chips in their teeth; or front teeth that have had root canal treatments.

Patients who need root canals on their front teeth often have trauma to the tooth. When we have trauma to the tooth, it increases the risk of root problem down the road. Unfortunately, we cannot predict when a patient might need a root canal. We typically restore teeth that have had root canal therapy with dental crowns, but front teeth are a little different. When a front tooth needs a root canal, we do not need to replace the entire crown of the tooth. The problem with that process is that the enamel typically wears down and the tooth becomes almost translucent. It’s common for patients with root canals on their front teeth to see enamel wear down to the point that the tooth chips or even breaks. Patients who clench or grind their teeth also face a higher risk of damaging their front teeth. The best way to restore function and beauty to your front teeth is by having veneers placed.

We can place veneers in two easy visits. We first prepare the teeth by removing a small portion of the enamel in order to make the restoration fit naturally. Once we prepare the teeth, we take impression for the permanent restoration. You’ll wear a temporary restoration while your permanent veneers are being created. We then place the permanent veneers by bonding the restorations to the teeth. Our porcelain veneers will match your natural smile and the restoration do not stain. We often recommend patients to have veneers and whitening treatments to form a beautiful and bright smile.

The best benefit for patients with weak enamel is that the veneers strengthen the teeth. By strengthening the teeth, we can avoid having teeth further damaged or chipped.

Veneers are a conservative approach to repairing or improving teeth, but the procedure is not reversible. Once your enamel is removed, it cannot be replaced with anything but a restoration. Some patients find that bonding can repair minor flaws in the teeth, but porcelain veneers do not stain and last longer than any dental bonding.
