Many adults are living with crooked, gapped, or misaligned teeth. Have you always wanted to beautify your smile by straightening your teeth, but hated the thought of metal braces? You should consider Invisalign clear plastic aligners, offered by Dores Dental.
Metal Braces: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Traditional metal braces do an excellent job of moving teeth into position over time, and there are complex dental cases where nothing else will do. As good as metal braces are at what they do, there are some problems as well.
Metal braces consist of pads (bracket) that are bonded to your teeth and then connected by wires. That’s the “mouthful of metal” look that you’ve probably seen on other people and decided there was no way you were going to have braces.
Today, there are tooth-colored brackets and wires that aren’t quite as noticeable, but they’re still made out of metal. All that metal in the mouth can irritate your tongue, gums, and the insides of your teeth. Some people even experience cuts from their braces.
Traditional braces also come with food restrictions and are difficult to clean around. And, the periodic adjustments to tighten the wires are painful for many people.
Dr. Dores is proud to offer the Invisalign orthodontic system for patients who want straight teeth without the embarrassment and hassle of braces.
Invisalign is series customized, clear plastic aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. You wear each aligner in your series for about two weeks, and then switch to the next aligner. Unlike the pain of tightening wires, the sensation of switching to your next aligner is described by most people as a “slight pressure.” The new aligner continues the work of moving your teeth gently into position.
You’ll see Dr. Dores about every six weeks or so to check your progress.
Invisalign aligners are very hard for others to detect when in place. You remove them to eat (including snacks) and to brush and floss. There are no food restrictions or special oral hygiene care techniques needed. For best results, you’ll wear your aligners for 20-22 hours daily. Invisalign fits so snugly over your teeth that you don’t have to worry about the aligner popping off, even while you sleep.
The smooth plastic aligners won’t irritate the insides of your mouth. For busy professionals and people with active social lives, Invisalign can be the ideal path to a happier smile.
