Twenty-five percent of adults over 60 are missing their natural teeth. Over the years, they have lost a tooth here or there until there was nothing left. That’s a lot of gummy smiles!
Of course the denture solution has been popular for centuries. You might have heard stories of George Washington wearing wooden teeth (which is a myth, by the way, his dentures were most likely made of animal or human teeth), but the first evidence of dentures date back much farther than that!
Dentures have come a long way over the centuries, but they are still lacking quite a bit of power when compared with your natural teeth. You actually lose about 75% of your bite strength between your natural chompers and your dentures. That’s a lot of good food that you can no longer enjoy!
You Don’t Have to Live This Way
The good news is that you don’t have to live with traditional dentures. They are slippery and difficult to keep tight on your gums. It’s next to impossible to really enjoy your food when you are worried that the next bite will involve your dentures coming out of your mouth.
No amount of denture adhesive can make that fresh apple easier to eat! You need a better solution, and we are happy to be able to offer it here at Dores Dental.
Implant Supported Dentures
Implant supported dentures are a fantastic way for you to get the support you need to enjoy your food. Rather than worrying about your dentures slipping right out of your mouth, you can simply smile and enjoy your meal!
The process is fairly simple. We begin with some checks of your jawbone to make sure you can support the implants themselves. Once we have completed those checks, we will schedule your dental implant surgery.
For implant supported dentures, we will select a few places around your arches to place the implants. We will then fit your dentures (or order new dentures) with the hardware needed to connect with the implants already in place in your mouth.
Your implants will take a few weeks to completely heal, but when they do, it will be time to connect your dentures to the implants directly.
