What is the average age of a patient wearing braces? Probably 12 or 13, right? That’s the age group we tend to think of in associated with braces because that’s the age where we begin doing orthodontic work. The baby teeth are all out, and the adult teeth are (mostly) all in, which means we can adjust those teeth before they really settle into place.
While middle school is the sweet spot for orthodontic care, it is not the only time that braces can have benefit! We can’t place braces on anyone younger than middle school, but we can definitely place braces for adults!
Now, we know what you’re thinking, what kind of adult would want to deal with those metal brackets and wires? Probably not many, especially not when they are working jobs, in the dating scene, or trying to be a member of the community.
For Longmeadow, MA residents, you can have your cake and eat it, too. We have an orthodontic solution that allows you to get orthodontic care without any of the embarrassing looks! How is that possible, you might ask? One word: Invisalign!
Are Braces for Adults Possible?
You might still be caught up on adults wearing braces! Is it even possible? Absolutely! Especially with a system like Invisalign that allows you to get your treatment without anyone noticing! Let’s take a closer look at the Invisalign system and what it can do for your smile!
Many Could Benefit
Not all adults need orthodontic treatment, but we see plenty of patients who weren’t able to have orthodontic treatment as adolescents. We also see adults who had orthodontic care at a younger age but haven’t maintained their care.
Teeth will move back into their crooked positions if you don’t take measures (like wearing a retainer) to keep them in place. We estimate that about a quarter of all of our adult patients could benefit from orthodontic care in some way.
Ugly Appliances Aren’t Necessary
The thing many adults don’t realize is that wearing braces as an adult can be a completely different experience! You don’t have to deal with the ugly metal brackets and wires that kids are forced to wear. You can have something sleek and invisible!
Invisalign makes the choice for adult orthodontics easy because the process is so simple and carefree! We will take a closer look at the process next!
The Invisalign Solution
Invisalign clear aligners allow you the freedom to pursue your dream smile without worry of embarrassment or ridicule from your peers. There is no other orthodontic solution that will give you this same level of freedom and confidence!
Within a few short months, you will begin to notice the changes to your smile, and you’ll be surprised at how much more confident you will begin to feel! Let’s take some time to look at how Invisalign works for you and your smile.
The Product: Invisalign is a series of clear, plastic aligners that fit tightly over your natural teeth. You will get a series of 24-36 aligners that will take you from embarrassment to your dream smile.
The Process: We begin with digital images of your teeth that allow us to plan your entire smile movement on the computer. This plan will determine how your aligners are made. You will then wear your aligners for 12-18 months, each aligner adding slightly more pressure to move your teeth into place.
Your Responsibilities: Your part in all of this is easy. You simply wear your aligners for 22 hours out of each day. Remove your aligners to eat and to care for your teeth (you will also clean your aligners at this time). Every two weeks, you will switch your aligners out for the next set.
The Results: Invisalign results are just as effective as the results you would expect from metal braces. Your entire smile will be in the correct position, and you will feel completely confident in your smile, maybe for the first time in your life!
