Overcome Dental Anxiety With Laser Light

If there’s one piece of equipment in the dentist’s office that frightens patients,  it’s got to be the drill. It’s loud, it’s noisy; and what is that burning smell, anyway? When you take into account the fact that most people have their first experience with a drill when they are very young (usually for a cavity filling), those feelings of worry and fear have a long time to germinate into serious anxiety conditions and in some rare cases, outright phobia!

In our Longmeadow, MA dental practice, we’re very familiar with what triggers nervousness and anxiety in our patients, which is why we’ve invested in advanced technologies such as the Solea Laser, a revolutionary piece of equipment that renders the drill obsolete!

What’s the Solea Laser?

The Solea laser is one great example of how laser technology is changing the face of modern dentistry (for the better). The Solea laser is used for a number of procedures, for which the drill might have been the only option.

Lasers have been in use in dentistry since the early 1990s. Lasers eliminate the unpleasant sounds, vibrations, lengthy healing times, and the pain associated with the drill.

The Solea Laser represents a sea change in laser dentistry; it can transition smoothly between soft and hard tissues (soft tissues such as your gums, hard tissues such as your teeth) with ease, making it one of the most versatile dental tools available today.

We can use the Solea Laser to perform virtually pain-and-discomfort-free procedures, such as:

  • Gum Disease Treatment: the laser eradicates oral bacteria (plaque) that has gone below the gum line and threatens tooth loss.
  • Cavity fillings: Eliminates the need for local anesthetic (no more needles), as well as the sound and other unpleasant sensations associated with getting your tooth drilled and filled.
  • Gum Reshaping: cosmetically enhancing the appearance of teeth that have gums that are overly pronounced (a gummy smile).

Even better, recovery times are reduced considerably because the laser actually cauterizes your soft tissues (which would normally need to heal).

Could You Have Dental Anxiety?

The Solea laser is how we help our patients overcome a condition called dental anxiety. Dental anxiety affects about 60% of the US adult population, and that doesn’t include the 8% who suffer from an even more severe form of the condition, dental phobia.

If you’re suffering with dental anxiety, just the thought of the dentist can set off a nervous reaction. The primary symptom of dental anxiety is avoidance behavior, which is exactly what it sounds like: you will do anything to avoid going to the dentist for as long as possible. People with dental anxiety will endure incredible pain, discomfort, and embarrassment to avoid going to the dentist, and will only begin considering doing so when the problem has gotten so bad it can no longer be ignored.

What is especially tragic about this is that it usually means oral health problems that could have been solved much earlier (with much less intensive procedures) go unaddressed until only highly intensive and sometimes highly invasive procedures will work.

Conquer Your Dental Anxiety With Laser Technology!

At Dores Dental, we understand that the patient’s comfort is the top priority; otherwise, you won’t come in to get the treatments you need to keep your teeth healthy, before they become treatments that you need (or your teeth will fall out, or worse).
