One difficult issue that we see a lot of in our line of work is bad breath. Occasional bad breath is embarrassing, as we all know. But folks who suffer from a chronic condition known as halitosis have it even worse. This is nothing to be ashamed of, as it can happen to anyone. But we want you to know that there is plenty that you can do to better your situation. That’s why, today, we want to share our suggestions for getting a handle on bad breath. Keep reading, and then be sure to schedule your next preventive dental checkup at Dores Dental!

Mints Aren’t Really The Answer

When you get a horrible taste in your mouth, it’s easy to grab a mint, cover it up, and go on about your business. The bad thing is that most mints are full of sugar. After the mint has dissolved in your mouth, all that lingers is a sugary residue that actually feeds the bacteria causing your breath problems. It can be a vicious cycle. If you have to, try chewing on some sugar-free gum instead of mints.

Make No Mistake: Flossing Is A Must

Overcoming chronic bad breath is actually a matter of destroying bacteria. Brushing is a great start. But flossing is an even better weapon in this neverending battle. You should attempt to floss twice a day or more to drive bacteria out from the hard-to-get regions in-between your teeth.

Give Your Tongue Some Extra Attention

You may not think to give your tongue any love. But if you are plagued by chronic bad breath, you should take some time to scrape and brush your tongue twice a day. Do it when you brush and floss! It will really help, and it is easy enough to do.

Drink Lots Of H2O

Water is so good for you, generally speaking. And we have discovered that keeping yourself hydrated is perhaps the best thing you can do to ward off bad breath. This is because saliva naturally eliminates bacteria in your mouth that is causing the bad breath. But in order for saliva to be produced, you need to drink enough water. If you can find water with fluoride that is even better, from our perspective.
